Match report: Ivybridge 3, North Petherton 10
11:00am Tuesday 21st February 2012

PETHERTON had a depleted squad and only 17 players due to last minute injuries and this was to be a real test of character against an Ivybridge side with a big pack.
Early in the game, Ivybridge kicked well for position pinning Petherton deep in their 22, and here the game was played for the first 20 minutes with the Ivybridge forwards throwing everything at a magnificent Petherton defence, which eventually ended with a penalty being awarded and converted by Ivybridge.
Late in the half, Petherton managed to force some pressure with a catch-and-drive from a lineout but, unfortunately, the ball was knocked on and Ivybridge relieved the pressure. The half ended 3-0 to Ivybridge.
In the second half, the roles were quickly reversed – Lloyd Williams kicking well for position, and the forwards dominating upfront.
This pressure resulted in a penalty being awarded in the Ivybridge 22, which Harry Roberts converted to tie the score after 10 minutes.
Control of the ball became more and more difficult as the pitch took on the resemblance of a mud bath, and after 60 minutes Ivybridge knocked the ball on giving Petherton a scrum on the 22 of the opposition.
Petherton won the scrum, and Carl Brown picked up and drove powerfully to the line offloading to Matt Ranson who went over to score the only try, converted by Harry Roberts.
The game continued to be forward dominated but neither side could break through and the referee blew for full time with Petherton on top.
Next week, Petherton are at home for their rearranged fixture with Exeter Saracens. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
