Nurse from North Petherton loses four stone

A NURSE from North Petherton whose job it is to give healthy eating advice decided to take action to lose weight when she edged towards a size 24 and felt like a hypocrite.

Mary Trotman, 33, has worked with the Employment Assistant Programme as a clinical nurse manager and advises employees on how to keep their staff healthy.

She is now set to be made redundant but is putting her training and experience towards helping other beat the bulge as a Slimming World consultant.

She said: “I would speak to HR managers about how to keep their staff healthy. I felt like such a hypocrite, pushing them to live more healthily, to promote healthy food in the canteens, while I was overweight.

“I had been a size 16 before I got pregnant and ballooned up to a size 22 and 16 stone 11 after George's birth. I think I just stopped exercising, socialising and cooking. Instead I told myself we were too busy to do anything and we lived off convenience food.

“I also couldn't wear nice clothes. I had to shop in the supermarket, where they did larger sizes. Though I knew what would look nice, I couldn't wear it.

“I lived in this one size 22 skirt and when that became too tight I knew it was time to take action. As a nurse, I knew what I should be doing and I wasn't taking my own advice. “ · Her classes run at North Petherton Community Centre at 7.30pm.
